We worked with Netflix and megastar Becky G on an original music video promoting the 5th season of their hit Spanish show La Casa de Papel (or Money Heist, its inferior English title).
"Bella Ciao" is a traditional Italian labor song that was adapted to become an anthem of Italy's antifascist partisans during WWII. Our version for Becky G blended Spanish and English in with the Italian as a nod to La Casa de Papel's crossover success and global audience.
I wrote the winning treatment for the video and worked with the creative director, director and producer to develop the final script and art direction.
It was a huge success, both for the client and commercially, getting 10m views on YouTube in its first week. It's now at 51m views and counting and only 150 of them were me.
Experiential Art Gallery
We created “Made in China,” a gallery exhibition in Chelsea to drive awareness for the three million predominantly Muslim Uyghur people have been arbitrarily detained in western China, part of a state-sponsored campaign of intimidation and forced assimilation. Detainees’ forced labor factors in the supply chains of 17 global industries — a fact obfuscated by corporate power.
The art on display reveal the hidden human cost of your car, your cotton T-shirt, and your can of tomatoes. The arresting image of our central work — a Tesla Model Y made of human forms — forced casual gallery strollers to stop and reckon with a difficult, unhidden truth. Because, as Elie Wiesel taught, you can’t stop a genocide until you stop looking away.
